I tried out three cases for my MacBook Air 11": this one; the Moshi Muse; and the Acme Made Skinny Sleeve. The Moshi Muse is great--a little tight to get the lip over the laptop, but amazingly luxurious. It's really soft, well padded, but not too thick. It's perfect, except it isn't TSA compliant--it closes with two magnets inside and has an accessory slot. I think that these two qualities disqualify it as a TSA-compliant bag. The Acme Made Skinny Sleeve is kind of strange. It's a tight fit for the laptop, though it does fit. It just takes a bit of work. The elastic strap is cumbersome. While that type of band works great on the Kindle case, it's much too wide on the Skinny Sleeve and just takes a cumbersome design and makes it more awkward. Plus, the neoprene doesn't seem very thick and the built-in protective plates don't seem like they'd be too effective. But I didn't try this case for long, so I could be mistaken about its protectiveness. I just wasn't too impressed. It was trying too hard.
The Speck PixelSleeve doesn't have any of these problems. The neoprene seems thick enough to be somewhat protective, but not too thick to add excessive bulk. It's a touch difficult to get the corners of the laptop into the case, but, even so, was probably the easiest to use of the three cases I tried. The inside is very soft as well. And, most importantly for me, the case is unquestionably TSA-compliant. There appears to be no metal whatsoever in the case--no zippers or snaps--and there are no extra pockets. It is nothing more than a sleeve for the laptop. This is exactly what I was looking for--a sleeve that would provide scratch and gentle bump protection, but would go through a TSA security screening. If this is what you're looking for, then I think you'll be satisfied with the PixelSleeve. (FYI, the sleeve is great, but ordering through Speck's website didn't work for me at all.)
Yes, I know that the MacBook Air 11" technically doesn't need to be screened by TSA at all, but I am skeptical that this edict will be universally followed. I'd rather have a sleeve that clearly meets the TSA's requirements.
